What Is a Monoblock Centrifugal Pump?

A monoblock pump is a pump where the motor and hydraulic part are integrated on a single shaft. This design:

  • Saves space

  • Reduces energy loss

  • Minimizes alignment problems

  • Simplifies installation and maintenance

  • Where it's commonly used:

  • Building water supply

  • Agricultural irrigation

  • Fire-fighting systems

  • Cooling & HVAC

  • Industrial and commercial pressure boosting

Key Technical Terms

1.P1 and P2: What’s the Difference?

  • P1 (Input Power): The electrical power the pump motor takes in.

  • P2 (Output Power): The mechanical power the pump delivers to move water.

Important: P1 is always greater than P2 because of energy loss (mainly heat and friction).

The smaller the difference, the higher the motor efficiency.

2.What Is EN 733 / DIN 24255?

These are European design standards for end-suction centrifugal pumps. Pumps designed under these standards:

  • Match standard piping and dimensions

  • Are interchangeable across suppliers

  • Offer consistent performance

If you're managing large projects or maintaining multiple buildings, using standard-compliant pumps like SEN ensures smooth replacements and less downtime.

3.A/B/C Letters After Model Numbers?

These refer to the impeller trim sizes:

  • A = full size (highest flow/head)

  • B = mid-trim

  • C = smallest trim (lower head/flow)

Trimming impellers lets suppliers fine-tune the pump to fit specific flow and pressure needs—without overloading the system or wasting energy.

4.DNM and DNA – What Do They Mean?

  • DNM: Suction inlet diameter

  • DNA: Discharge outlet diameter

Both are given in millimeters and help ensure proper pipe matching for installation.

5.What Does 3 × 400V Mean?

This shows the electrical supply requirement 3-phase and 400 volts

Ideal for industrial and commercial systems across Europe

This voltage ensures:

  • Strong starting torque

  • Stable power for heavy-duty applications

  • Long service life of motors

6.Material & Durability

SEN monoblock pumps are built with:

  • Cast iron body (EN-GJL-250) – strong and durable

  • Stainless steel shaft – corrosion-resistant

  • Cast iron impeller – cost-effective and robust

The material choice ensures long-term operation even in challenging environments like dusty farms, humid basements, or hot plant rooms.

7.Temperature Rise

Temperature rise is a critical performance factor that directly impacts the reliability, safety, and service life of a monoblock pump. Unlike intermittent-use pumps, monoblock pumps are often deployed in mission-critical systems such as firefighting, irrigation, HVAC water circulation, and industrial water supply, where prolonged operation under demanding conditions is expected.

During continuous duty, the motor generates heat due to internal electrical losses (I²R losses, core losses, etc.), and inadequate heat dissipation can cause the internal temperature to rise beyond design limits. Excessive temperature rise may result in:

  • Premature wear of motor windings and insulation failure

  • Reduced efficiency and performance due to increased resistance

  • Thermal expansion stress on mechanical seals, bearings, and couplings

  • In extreme cases, complete motor burnout or system shutdown

For this reason, a well-designed monoblock pump must demonstrate controlled and stable temperature rise, even during extended full-load operation. This is particularly essential in firefighting or HVAC systems, where the pump may be required to operate continuously for hours without interruption — and failure is simply not an option.
